I had an interesting conversation with two of the office ladies today. They asked if we studied Romaji in elementary school in America. I was a little confused by the question, so I asked if they meant if we studied Japanese. (Romaji is the way of writing Japanese with Roman letters (a-z)). I had to explain that Romaji was just for Japanese and that English uses the same letters, but of course, it is English, not Japanese. They hadn't really thought about that. I pointed out that French, Spanish, and German all used the same letters, with some slight variations.
