This past week has not been ideal in many ways. The main thing has been that Victoria got a bad virus which made her feel horrible for a little over a week. The end result of this was that she was unable to go on her vacation to France with her friends. Obviously, this made her sad, along with the fact that she had already paid for it. The good news is that I got to see her a lot more since she was here. Unfortunately everything made her very tired, so she was mostly trapped in the apartment for the whole week, which was probably not much consolation about not going to France.

To make up for the missed trip to France, we went to see the Vagina Monologues at one of Sheffield's theaters. The Vagina Monologues is a series of monologues based on the author's experience interviewing hundreds of women about their vaginas and sex lives. There were three actresses giving the monologues. Two of them were professional actresses and did a great job. The other, Caprice, is a Californian underwear model who is a bit of a star in Britain. She did alright, but wasn't as good as the pros.

We also gave each other haircuts and did some tidying up around the flat. I sanded down a chest of drawers whose drawers aren't sliding shut the way they are supposed to. Victoria also developed an obsession with sweeping the flat, despite my insistence she rest. It wasn't the most exciting week for her, but Victoria's health is finally improving.

The good news from work is that even if I don't get the new post with the salary raise and all the extra vacation, then I will at least be able to keep my current job through the end of the contract.

We have also booked tickets to Jersey in August, one of the channel islands between France and Britain. They have nice stamps there, but that isn't why we are visiting it. Victoria's eldest sister, Fiona, and her three children live in Jersey. Victoria hasn't been to visit her in over 10 years, though she has seen her since then. I met her at Gillian's, Victoria's other sister's, wedding and once in Oxford. It will be interesting to see their house, because Jersey is home to many wealthy people. Apparently they have a trampoline and live close to the beach, so you can imagine the sort of entertainment we will be partaking in. Since it is August, it should be a nice time to visit. We will go on August 4 and return that Monday morning.
